Rights Respecting Schools Report
The Day We Met Billy Bragg.

On Tues 31st March, Millie and I went to the Springfield Hotel in Wareham with Mrs Holloway and Mrs Matthews. Our school does a lot of work with children’s Rights and Responsibilities, and because we entered a song competition for UNICEF, we were chosen to represent the school at the ‘Dorset’s Rights Respecting Schools Celebration Day.’
We did lots of activities such as a Global Workshop which told us that buying Fairtrade products can help save lives. By us buying the products, half of the money goes to farmers in countries like Ghana. Then they can buy more seeds to grow more crops for them to eat and export.

The next workshop was about another school’s Arts week. They told us how to make felt for banners and other things. The lady also showed us a video about how their school represents their rights and responsibilities through art.
The final workshop of the morning was Early Years; this was how to teach younger children their rights and responsibilities using the correct language. (Copied Mum’s notes!!)
After lunch and a football match we had our final activity which was all about ‘How our school will look in a few years time, after we have achieved a Level 2 for RRS’. We decided as a group that the answer was for EVERYONE to be aware of the Rights and Responsibilities of children.
The day ended nicely with the song winners performing their UNICEF song in front of everyone at the celebration day, and most importantly of all, in front of Mr Billy Bragg.

We had a wonderful day and were pleased with our achievement of being runners up in the competition. Thank you Mrs Masino for all your help.

Rights Respecting Schools Report RRS Celebration Day, Wareham.

On Tuesday 31st of March, Shannon and I went to the Springfield Country Hotel to represent our school for the Rights Respecting Schools. A man called Peter who has worked for UNICEF for many years gave us a thing to do before we went to the workshops. There were pictures around the room with numbers on and we were told to go to them and think of the Rights in the pictures. After that we went to three different workshops: they were the Global, Artsweek and Early Years workshops.

After that we had our lunch and there was a selection of food on tables. After the main course we had dessert but I didn’t have any though Mrs Holloway and Mrs Matthews were teasing me.

After lunch we all went outside to play and Shannon and I played footie and some children played tennis. After that we had to go back inside to answer the questions: What would our school be like in 2 years; and what would it look like when we are adults and grand parents?

After that we met Billy Bragg and when he came on, he announced who had won the song competition and we came second.
It was a really very good day, we loved it!
